Drinking water and wastewater
Many industries have to deal with the degradation of their reinforced concrete infrastructures, whether related to how long they’ve been in service or often times the result of an aggressive environment. As an example, the drinking and wastewater treatment plants are particularly subjected to this last condition.
The use of halogens such as chlorine, fluorine, or iodine, in the disinfection of drinking water, as well as the ozonation, all have a devastating effect on steel products, no matter if they are black, galvanized, epoxy covered or even stainless steel elements. Evidently, this disinfection is an absolute necessity to achieve a proper quality of the water that will be distributed to the surrounding homes and users. It is therefore also essential to take all appropriate measures to protect the equipments and reinforced concrete reservoirs against the aggressiveness of these products.
Generally speaking, a significant increase in concrete covers and utilization of costly membranes, both initially and in maintenance, are the methods used to prevent the concrete degradation but there is an alternative…
With the product V•ROD of Pultrall...
V•ROD, the composite material concrete reinforcement rod manufactured by Pultrall is totally inert and impervious to these gaseous and liquid chemicals. The use of our technology will therefore help reduce the construction costs of a drinking water treatment plant by minimizing the concrete quantities required as well as eliminating the need for a membranous reservoir protection.
To continue in the same vein, wastewater treatment plants also have their share of problems. Their situation differs however in the source of the metallic element’s corrosion initiator or activator. In this last case, it is the result of the presence of hydrogen sulphide (H2S) produced by bacterial silt accumulations, that extends its devastating effects not only to submerged structures and elements but also to the ones surrounding the installations.

about V•ROD rebar.
V•ROD rebar does not rust, even in the harshest environments. It does not react to salt, chemical products or the alkalinity present in concrete.
V•ROD rebar does not create a thermal bridge within structures.
She is almost 4 times lighter than steel rebar. It is much easier to handle and, in most cases, one truck load will be sufficient to carry the rebar required on an entire project.
V•ROD rebar offers a level of thermal expansion comparable to concrete due to its 80% silica content.
V•ROD rebar does not contain any metal; it will not cause any interference in contact with strong magnetic fields or when operating sensitive electronic instruments.
V•ROD rebar produced by pultrusion offers a tensile strength that can reach more than five times that of steel.
V•ROD rebar can be delivered at the right time and in the exact quantity needed at the site. Various specifications such as the length of straight bars as well as angles and led lengths of special bent sections are prepared in the plant.
